DOT Cylinders

A "tank" in a storage context generally refers to a metal or plastic container used to store liquids at atmospheric pressure and temperature for short or long periods of time. They can range in size from a few gallons to an entire reservoir, though most are somewhere in between.

DOT Cylinders are used to store and transport liquids, usually pressurized gases. They must meet requirements set by the Department of Transportation and pass inspection to qualify for use. This is because pressurized gases present additional hazards that need to be mitigated in order to be safely transported.

In order to efficiently transport gases, it makes sense to compress the gas as much as possible. This is done by either drastically lowering the temperature of the vessel the gas is stored in, or more commonly, by raising the pressure by pumping a lot of a gas into the confined volume.

Pressure vessels are tanks specifically designed to hold pressurized liquids, very similar to gas cylinders, but pressure vessels are usually designed to be used in their location rather than traveling across borders. In order to safely preserve their contents, they must meet specific design requirements. Many pressure vessels are designed to ASME standards, which are used worldwide for the design of vessels and boilers in various industries.

High-pressure tanks contain and store gases at higher pressures than in the atmosphere. This level of pressure places the bottle's contents in a state of supercritical fluid, dissolved or substrate material, vapor over liquid, or compressed gas. The valve and nozzle at the top of the bottle release the gas in a controlled way. You can also connect a reception mechanism to the valve.
