Industrial gas cylinder safety precautions and usage guidelines

General precautions
1. Gas cylinders should be stored in a well-ventilated place. It is strictly prohibited to store them near precision equipment, cables, refueling systems, flammable materials, etc. or in a closed space. They should be kept away from heat sources and should be prevented from being exposed to sunlight in summer. The cylinder must be equipped with two anti-shock rings and a cylinder cap.
2. Gas cylinders must be stored upright and placed in cylinder racks, cylinder cages or other specified areas, and should be fixed using special fixing facilities such as ropes and chains or other feasible measures.
3. Do not bring the gas cylinder into contact with electrified objects, and do not allow the gas cylinder valve to be contaminated with grease.
4. It is strictly prohibited to mix gas bottles with flammable and explosive materials.
5. The cap of the gas cylinder should be tightened before transporting it. Cylinders should be loaded and unloaded with care. Throwing, rolling or collision are strictly prohibited. Carts, pallets, etc. should be used to move gas cylinders.
6. It is prohibited to use the gas bottle cap as a hanging point or handle.
7. During use of the gas cylinder, a certain amount of residual air must be retained.
8. The condition of the gas cylinder should be checked before use; the accessories of the gas cylinder, such as safety helmets, anti-shock rings, pressure gauges, pressure reducing valves, etc., should be in good condition.
9. Gas cylinders that have expired or do not have a manufacturing inspection stamp must not be used.
10. The hose connected to the gas cylinder must be tied firmly with hoops. Damaged and severely aged hoses must not be used.
11. Do not use dangerous methods such as rope pulling to transport gas bottles to high places, nor use free rolling down stairs or ramps to transport gas bottles downwards.
12. The gas cylinder must be connected to a pressure regulator. It is prohibited to directly connect the gas cylinder valve to use.
13. When opening the valve, you should do it step by step; when closing the valve, stop it in moderation and do not use excessive force. Just stop the gas from flowing out.
14. If a gas cylinder leak is found, the cylinder should be moved to a safe location, relevant personnel in the workplace should be reminded to stay away, and the supplier should be notified.
Special precautions
1. The storage environment temperature of various types of gas cylinders should comply with the following regulations: acetylene cylinders must not be higher than 40°C, argon cylinders must not be higher than 50°C, and oxygen cylinders must not be higher than 60°C.
2. The gas in the cylinder must not be exhausted. The residual pressure of the oxygen cylinder shall not be less than 0.2MPa. The residual pressure of the argon cylinder cannot be lower than 0.5MPa. The residual pressure of the acetylene cylinder shall not be lower than the following regulations: the residual pressure is 0.1MPa when the ambient temperature is 0℃-15℃, the residual pressure is 0.2MPa when the ambient temperature is 15℃-25℃, and the residual pressure is 0.3MPa when the ambient temperature is 25℃-40℃.
3. The air tightness of the gas cylinder system should be checked before gas welding (cutting) operations. Do not use the system if there is leakage. It is strictly prohibited to mix oxygen and acetylene cylinders. There should be at least 5 meters between oxygen cylinders and acetylene cylinders. Safety distance: the safety distance between the gas cylinder and the fire point shall not be less than 10 meters.
4. Dissolved acetylene cylinders and other combustible gas cylinders should also be equipped with flashback preventers that are suitable for the type of gas. Different types of flashback preventers must not be mixed.
5. It is forbidden to use the regulators and piping of various gases in a disorderly manner, especially the oxygen cylinder, otherwise an explosion may occur.
6. It is strictly prohibited to place acetylene cylinders on electrical insulators.
7. When working together with welders, the bottom of the oxygen cylinder should be padded with insulating material to prevent the cylinder from becoming electrified. Pipes and other metal equipment in contact with gas cylinders must have good grounding devices to prevent static electricity from causing combustion or explosion accidents.
