There are many experiments in the laboratory that require the use of gas cylinders. There are several situations:
(1) The cylinder is placed in an explosion-proof cabinet in the same laboratory as the testing instruments;
(2) The cylinder is placed in the same laboratory as the testing instruments and fixed with iron chains or other means;
(3) The cylinder is placed somewhere in the building and connected to the laboratory by pipeline;
(4) The cylinder is placed in an ordinary house outdoors, etc.
How to store cylinders correctly?
Since gas cylinders are pressure vessels, be sure to be vigilant when storing them to prevent suffocation, fire, explosion, high pressure and injuries caused by incorrect operation of compressed gas cylinders.
The following behaviors are prohibited:
1. Storage temperature exceeds 52°C;
2. Smoking or open flames in the storage area of oxidants or flammable gases;
3. Exposing cylinders to corrosive environments.
Correct operating behavior:
1. Store cylinders vertically;
2. Secure cylinders when storing, moving or using;
3. Store cylinders in dedicated areas;
4. Separate full and empty cylinders;
5. Store cylinders in a dry, cool, weather-proof area away from combustible materials;
6. Separate flammable or combustible materials from oxidizers by at least 20 feet;
7. Monitor the air in areas where gas may be discharged and accumulate;
8. Use a first-in, first-out inventory system to prevent full cylinders from being stored for too long;
9. Store only the amount of compressed gas required for a specific application;
10. Store cylinders away from frequent access and emergency exits;
11. Provide adequate access for cylinder operations;
12. Visually inspect stored cylinders regularly or at least weekly for any signs of leaks or problems;
13. Restrict access to cylinder storage areas;
14. Prevent cylinders from contacting wet or damp floors.
